‘A’ For Aber Two
Aberystwyth Printmakers
7 August to 1 September 2017
This exhibition is a A follow up to last year’s A for Aber. This time the focus is on Visit Wales’ theme of the ‘Year of Legends’ 2017.
In 2016 the A for Aber exhibition at the University’s Old College included over 120 prints by 67 artists from Wales, the rest of the UK, Germany, France, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. As before the prints in the current exhibition are all in an A4 format and displayed here in an unframed, ‘pop-up’ style. They are exhibited in the gallery next to the At the Margins exchange exhibition between Print Makers Council Aotearoa New Zealand and Aberystwyth Printmakers.
Both exhibitions coincide with this year’s Aberystwyth Printmakers Summer Print Jamboree 2017, a two-week festival of printmaking workshops and artists talks between 12–28 August. Building upon the success of last year’s Print Jamboree, this programme of practical two-day print workshops attracts printmakers from far and wide to experience expert tuition from leading artist-practitioners. These workshops will take place at the Aberystwyth Printmakers Print Studio at Old College and also here at the School of Art.
Developing links with printmakers in New Zealand, Australia and China has enabled Aberystwyth Printmakers to continue building up an international network. These ambitious links are key to future plans for residencies and exchange programmes with students and practitioners from around the world. They also provide an opportunity for visitors to come here to take part in creative activities and experience the best Aberystwyth has to offer. By working with hotels, restaurants and events-organisers we can support the local economy and offer a cultural experience to an international audience.
